Winegrowers of Ara

Winegrowers of Ara comprises wine professionals who are in the process of developing a new origin for wine within New Zealand's most distinctive wine growing region Marlborough. This origin is Ara, an ancient river terrace composed of a large alluvial deposit laid down some 20,000 years ago. The association of clay and gravel is rare in New Zealand but forms the basis of many of the great French viticultural regions. Wines that carry the Ara origin embody a unique convergence of location and philosophy - a true fusion of tradition and innovation setting us on a pathway towards great wine.
