Mahi
Mahi, meaning ‘our work, our craft’, began in 2001, fulfilling a dream for Brian and Nicola Bicknell. With a strong focus on single-vineyard wines from Marlborough, the idea behind Mahi is to respect and promote the individuality of the various vineyards, their soils and their aspects.
Brian has been involved in over twenty vintages, an accomplishment that has seen him criss-cross the globe, accumulating experience in not only Marlborough, but also Chile, Hungary and France.
Returning to Marlborough permanently in 1996, Brian identified that individual sites within the region produced quite different styles of wine. At a time when Marlborough was considered to be producing regionally blended wines, hiding the diversity of the region, Mahi was born. Brian’s vision to showcase these differences, and the depth and complexities that the various terroir offer, has been exceeded with every Mahi Single Vineyard release. With the purchase of the winery in Renwick in 2006, a series of premium regional wines was created to complement the Single Vineyard range.
